EFL Teachers’ Perceptions on Learner Autonomy

Learner autonomy is the ability to take charge of one's own learning, have capacity for detachment, critical reflection, decision making, and independent action. There been studies conducted on learner at university level but not secondary school level. This mixed type research was aimed explore EFL teachers' perceptions about what is, teachers’ role in promoting autonomy, desirability feasibility is. The participants were selected by purposive sampling method. A questionnaire a structured interview, which designed Al-Busaidi (2012) adopted implemented. data collected from analyzed with SPSS 26.0 software through interviews exposed qualitative thematic analyses. results reveal that one biggest challenges implementing students’ lack motivation, interest, reluctance responsibility their learning. It also confirmed there strong correlation between motivation both trigger development each other.
